Vita Mix Smoothie Recipes - Red & Purple Smoothies

Bright Red Smoothie Recipe
We've been making some delicious Vita Mix smoothie recipes ever since we got our new Vita Mix a while back. In fact, smoothies are probably the number one thing we make with the new blender.

Because smoothies are so quick and easy and the Vita Mix makes then superbly, we have them fairly often as a snack or even a complete meal depending on what we put in them.

During the summer months we like to get fresh cherries from the produce section of our local supermarket and the nice thing about cherries, besides their sweet taste, is that you can make some very colorful smoothies with them.

The last couple of smoothies we enjoyed, and I believe you would as well, were a Bright Red smoothie and a Purple smoothie.

Sometimes because of the ingredients we put in our blended drinks, even though they are super nutritious, they may not look all that appetizing. Jean likes green smoothies, but when you mix red such as in strawberries, and green such as in parsley, you end up with grey. It tastes great, but it looks funny, and that's not funny ha, ha.

That's why I've enjoyed these last two Vita Mix smoothie recipes, because they taste great, are filled with nutrition and they look great as well.

Bright Red Smoothie Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 banana
5 strawberries
2 medium chunks of pineapple
1 large pinch of coconut
5 fresh cherries, pitted of course
3 oz of fresh squeezed orange juice
1 dozen ice cubes

Throw all the ingredients in the Vita Mix and turn it on low and make sure the dial is set to low as well. (Variable speed dial is only on the Vita Mix 5000) gradually increase the speed up to 10 and then flip the speed switch to high. This is the preferable way to make a smoothie in a Vita Mix because it is so powerful. Going from low to high helps chop up the fruit and blend it together smoothly without splattering it on the bottom of the lid.

Purple Vita Mix Smoothie
Purple Smoothie Recipe:

Ingredients:

5 medium size strawberries
1 pinch of coconut
1 banana
8 fresh cherries - pitted
1 to 1.5 teaspoons of Green Magma
12 ice cubes
3 oz of fresh squeezed OJ or water depending on how sweet your taste is.

Mix the ingredients together just like the Bright Red Smoothie above and enjoy.

The secret to this one and getting the purple color is the Green Magma. If you use to much of it, the smoothie will turn a greyish color. It will still taste great, but it will look a little funky. So, try adding the Green Magma a little at a time and see how the color looks.

If you don't already own one, you can get a Vita Mix on eBay for a great price. We got ours directly from the Vita Mix store on eBay.
