Below is a picture of our compost bin in the back of our yard. If you are gardening then it is essential that you compost your kitchen scraps to help you get rich fertile soil for your garden.
The process to get our compost is to first collect the kitchen compost in a half gallon measuring cup, then put it in a 7 gallon buck in the garage, and when that gets full it goes into the compost bin in the yard. We usually turn the compost every time we fill the 7 gallon bucket which entails using a pitch fork to turn what's already in the bin, we then add about half of the 7 gallon bucket add a little soil and then some dry plant material on top and then we dump in the secon half of the bucket and let the compost cook for several weeks.
If you do this several times, you will have nice rich compost in 3 to 4 months and with the kind of compost bin we have in the picture below, you open up the bottom and can get a fairly good wheelbarrow full of rich soil when it's time for planting.
