The lying tricep extension is an isolation exercise that can be done by those who are just beginning to get into resistance training. You build strength on your triceps as you push on the cable while lying down on the bench.
Be sure to do your stretches and warm-ups before doing this exercise. Set the weights on the pulley in a level that is light enough not to strain your muscles but still heavy enough to give you a challenging workout. Have the cable run through the lower pulley of the machine and use a straight bar attachment.
Lie down on the bench with head and torso flat and straight. Your head should be slightly off the bench and your feet planted firmly on the ground. Grasp the straight bar with your palms facing forward and within shoulder’s breadth. It would be safer and easier if you have someone hand over the bar for you. Keep your arms tucked in fully extend your arms forward in front of your chest. Your arms should be straight, perpendicular to your torso. This will be your starting position.
Inhale as you lower the bar until it almost comes in contact with your forehead. Keep your arms tucked in and stationary throughout the motion. Your elbows should be at a 90? angle and kept forward. Exhale as you slowly extend your arms back to starting position while still keeping your upper arms stationary. Keep this position for a second before you repeat the cycle.
Repeat with the recommended number of reps and sets.
