Homemade Granola Recipe

Homemade Granola Recipe

Granola is a real treat in our home. We eat this homemade granola recipe as breakfast with strawberries on top as you see in the picture with our homemade coconut milk or almond milk, as a snack, occasional topping on fruit salad or on our 100% frozen fruit soft serve ice cream.

Though initially developed in the 1800’s and first referred to as granula, granola was popularized in the 60's, through the "back to nature" enthusiasts as a way to include more whole grains into the diet.

This healthy granola recipe is nutritious as it is full of protein, fibers and complex carbohydrates. Many of the granolas that are available at the grocery store are loaded with fats and refined sugars and preservatives. Additionally, this granola recipe costs a fraction of what store brands cost.

Homemade Granola Recipe:

6 cups old fashioned rolled oats.
½ cup organic raisins
1 cup roasted almonds
1 cup raw walnuts
1 cup unsalted sunflower seeds
1 cup pumpkin seeds
½ cup dry, unsweetened coconut
1 cup raw honey
½ teaspoon of sea salt
1 teaspoons cinnamon

Place oats and raisins in a large mixing bowl.

Place almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, coconut and walnuts in your food processor with the S blade in place. Chop the nuts until they have reached your desired consistency. We like ours a little crunchy but not too fine.

Pour the nut mixture into the bowl with the oats and raisins and add the salt and cinnamon. Mix together thoroughly. Next add the honey and stir into the oats, nuts and dried fruit mixture.

Tip for adding honey: If you add the honey all at once you may end up with a giant granola clump that is hard to stir. We put the honey in a squeeze bottle first and then squeeze it into the granola as we stir it.

Stir and incorporate all ingredients thoroughly. Taste your homemade granola recipe and adjust the cinnamon and salt to your desired taste.

We hope you enjoy this healthy granola recipe.
