These days healthy foods are easy to find if you know where to look. The problem is, because of increased toxins and pollutants that we find in our environment and our foods, we need to be careful that we are eating enough healthy foods and that they are really healthy.

Stick to organic, whole foods free of chemicals and additives and you should be fine.

Hundreds of studies have shown that people whose diets are rich in fruits and vegetables are healthier and have reduced risk of serious illness like cancer and heart disease. These foods have vital disease fighting antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. A good way to get the proper amount of daily nutrition from fruits and vegetables is by juicing; easy, fast, and powerful.

For something different, try sea vegetables, like kelp, wakame, and kombu, which have 10 to 20 more vitamins and minerals than land vegetables, according to some studies. There are a number of good sea vegetable snacks like chips and crackers on the market, or use sea vegetables as a flavor enhancer for soups and salads.

To get your daily protein intake, beans, nuts, and whole grains are the most healthy way to go. Almonds, for example, are a great source of protein high in amino acids packing six grams of protein per ounce. Soy products like tempeh and tofu are also great sources of protein, which have all of the essential amino acids. Studies have shown that eating soy protein helps reduce the risk of heart related diseases and cholesterol.

Balance is the essential philosophy, because over consumption of even healthy foods is bad for you.
