Healthy Breakfast Idea
by Jean LeStourgeon

Are you looking for a healthy breakfast idea that’s easy and delicious and nutritious? Well, look no further. The breakfast idea I have for you is loaded with nutrition and will give you long lasting energy. In fact, this breakfast cereal recipe I share below was one of the key factors I believe God used to jump start me back from the fog and fatigued I had been in for a number of years.

This healthy breakfast idea actually came from a friend of mine who is on a special diet for cancer patients. One of her treatments is the food she eats. I have modified the cereal from the recipe she provided me for practical reasons stated below.

What I like most about this recipe is it is a whole food, raw cereal made up of about 11 different grains and seeds. Simply grind the cereal together in your grain mill or flax seed grinder, soak over night and eat in the morning with fruit.

Healthy Multi-Grain Breakfast Cereal Recipe

Buy approximately 1/3 lb of each of the following grains:

Brown rice
Steel cut oats
Wheat berry
Barley
Buckwheat
Lentils
Millet
Spelt
Sunflower seeds
Flax seed
Quinoa

Put all the grains together in a large container and mix so that the grains are uniformly distributed throughout the cereal.

To serve, begin by grinding approximately 1/8 to 1/3 cup of grain per serving. Prepare the cereal the night before by placing the serving in a bowl, adding approximately an equal amount of water, covering it and allowing it to sit over night. I like mine the consistency of porridge. Soaking the mixture is necessary to deactivate the enzyme inhibitors which interfere with digestion. (This is just one of the reasons we recommend soaking nuts and some seeds before eating.)

In the morning, we add whatever fruit we have available. Some times we add chopped soaked almonds, raisins, and/or a dash of cinnamon. My husband Alan likes his with honey and cinnamon. I prefer mine plain.

I have at times included corn, almonds, mung beans and other types of dry beans in my cereal. However, I have found these ingredients to be too hard on my seed grinder and too large for my grain mill.

Feel free to vary the grains and seeds. If you can’t find some of the grains it’s not a big deal as long as you have a wide variety. Interestingly, in the 4th chapter of Ezekiel, the Bible tells of the time when God gave Ezekiel a recipe for a six grain bread made from wheat, spelt, barley, beans, lentils and millet. This was the only food God allowed him to eat for 430 days. Although this was a scant diet, God knew it was loaded with all the nutrition that Ezekiel would need to fulfill the very demanding prophetic work He had called Ezekiel to do.

Personally, I don’t think there is a healthier breakfast idea around that is as well balanced with complex carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Plus it’s living (raw) food which means its extra nutritious and good for you. This whole food, raw cereal is also economical and only takes minutes to prepare.

To your health!
