Barley Grass Nutrition

barley grass
Young barley grass contains perhaps the most balanced nutrient profile of all green plants with an abundance of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, proteins, active enzymes, and chlorophyll.

This green grass is a nutritious food unlike any other on earth. The juice from this nutritious grass contains 11 times the calcium in cow's milk, nearly 5 times the iron in spinach, 7 times the vitamin C in oranges, and 80 mg of vitamin B12 per hundred grams and many antioxidants known to protect the body from free-radical damage.

Dr. Yoshihide Hagiwara, President of the Hagiwara Institute of Health in Japan is responsible for much of the research done on barley over the last two decades. Dr. Hagiwara has researched more than 150 different plants over a period of 13 years and concluded that, of all the many green foods he studied, barley grass was the most nutritionally well-balanced.

Wheat and barley grasses are rich sources of chlorophyll which is an exceptionaly potent antioxidant. Some who cannot tolerate wheat grass choose to use barley grass as a supplement instead. Barley grass is most popularly used as a drink when juiced and is also found in dried supplement form and mixed with water or fruit juices.

Getting the same nutrition out of the dried form of barley grass as fresh grass was a challenge to Dr. Hagiwara. He eventually developed and patented a spray-dry method of capturing the nutrients in the grass and is now sold in a green powder that offers potent antioxidant protection and superior nutritional benefits.
