Healthy Diet News #023 - How Many Calories Should You Eat? April 26, 2011 |
How Many Calories Should You Eat? Hi, Sorry about the confusion in the last email newsletter. The title in the subject line didn't match the content of the newsletter. It was about survival in a disaster, not about healthy recipes for the new year. In today's newsletter we're going to talk about the importance of counting your calories and the big FDA news requiring restaurants to include calorie counts for each item on their menus. First, let's talks about counting your calories and whether or not it is important. We have been lead to believe that knowing how many calories in your meals is vitally important, especially if you want to lose weight. But is it really that important to keep track of all those calories, or, is it more important to eat the right foods that will provide the fuel for your body? There are guidelines for total calorie count per day for your age and gender, but beyond that, it is much more important to eat the right foods instead oif worrying about the calories in each item you eat. Read our article entitled, How Many Calories Should I Eat for more indepth details.
Next, let's deal with the new FDA menu guidelines. As usual, our government wants even more control over businesses and our individual lives so they have proposed that restaurants inform you that the unhealthy bacon, double cheeseburger with extra cheese, and a fattening ranch sauce actually has a lot of calories in it. Really? We're probably mature enough to figure that out ourselves wouldn't you think? And honestly, what difference does it make to the person who really wants to eat food such as that? Does the FDA realize that kind of food is of little nutritional value or do they just want to make sure everyone complies with yet even more regulations? Read our article on the proposed FDA menu labeling guidelines for more detail. As always we want to thank you for subscribing to Healthy Diet News. Until next time...
