Today's newsletter is going to be a little bit different than usual. Not only are we about healthy living and healthy eating at ezHealthyDiet.com we are also about being self sufficient as best you can. Growing a garden and buying large quantities of food such as grains, oats and beans will provide you with some staple items and fruits and vegetables to hopefully drive down the cost of your grocery bill, but with the recent disaster in Japan and political unrest in the Middle East, you never know when you might have to get out and go somewhere on a moments notice because unexpected things happen.

Since we live in Florida and are susceptible to hurricanes every June through November, we do have some survival goods and most of the time we can rely on FEMA for some eventual relief, but what if we are faced with a major disaster and no government or private agencies can respond for a long time. What do you do then?

Jean did some research and we came up with some essential gear you might need during a major disaster when you have to fend for yourself for an extended period of time. So we put together a survival gear kit with all those essentials in it and you can read about it here. While what you think is important to have and what's in our kit may vary, it is at least a reference for you to get started putting together a kit of your own. It may sit in your garage for the rest of your life, but if you need it, it may save your life.

We also put up an article on some basic survival tips that include 3 simple things you can do to make sure you are not an instant burden on the system when a big storm or some other situation arises. These are things you can do when you have advanced notice of impending danger such as a blizzard, hurricanes and storm fronts moving into your area. With hurricanes in Florida we have plenty of advanced warning, with other situations you may not have as much notice. You do know however, if you live in certain areas of the country that it obviously gets really cold and snows every winter in the north and that there are very threatening thunderstorms and high winds in March and April in other parts of the country. You can be alert, somewhat self sufficient and stay prepared.
