Healthy Recipes To Revolutionize Your New Year

Hi,

The dawning of a new year is always a good time to make resolutions to get rid of old habits, set goals for our business and personal lives and maybe lose a little weight that was gained mainly during the time between Halloween and New Years Day. For many, once the Halloween candy comes out, it's downhill for the rest of the year.

So, being that many are making their New Years revolutions (we all want the new year to be revolutionary) to eat healthy or lose a little weight, we can offer a few healthy recipes to get you started on that adventure. We however, don't offer weight loss advice because we believe that if you are eating the most nutritious food available (that would be a mostly raw diet), then you don't really need to worry about how much food you eat.

So, here are some of our top recipes to start your year off right:

Energy Bar Recipe
This is our answer to the personal energy crisis in America. Instead of grabbing a candy bar when you are hungry at work or need a mid morning snack at home, try one or two of these delicious energy bars that contain dates, walnuts, almonds, raisins, honey and more.

Green Smoothie Recipe
Jean has a green smoothie for breakfast nearly every morning and it gets her day stared off right. This recipe calls for parsley as the main green ingredient (the taste of parsley is a little strong for me) but Jean has since started using a hand full of spinach in her green smoothies and the taste is much more palatable.

Brown Rice & Lentils
This is one of the staple recipes around our house. In fact, Jean is making a big skillet of it as I write this newsletter. We discovered this recipe at our favorite Lebanese restaurant in town several years ago and we make a batch of it about every 6 weeks or so. It lasts for several days can be heated up in a flash for a quick and delicious lunch or dinner. I do add a little Louisiana Hot Sauce to spice things up a bit. You can also add fresh tomato slices and avocado for some extra deliciousness.

Healthy Trail Mix
Most trail mixes you buy in the store are loaded with salt, sugar and added fat and they really aren't all that nutritious. The mixes are disguised as being healthy when they really aren't. Our trail mix contains nothing but nuts, seeds and raisins. Pure health. Try it!

Tropical Mango Black Bean Salad
When mangos are in season, this is one of our favorite recipes. We discovered it last year on vacation and have had it several times because it is so delicious. You might not be able to find good mangos until later in the year, but this recipe is worth the wait.

Easy Hummus Recipe
Finally, we'll close out this newsletter with our easy hummus recipe. Hummus is such an easy and delicious recipe and can be used to put in a wrap, as a sandwich spread or as a dip for chips and veggies. It is a staple of middle eastern culture and we love it and eat it all the time. You can add a little variety to this recipe by putting a couple of dashes of cumin in it or roasting a red pepper and adding it to the mix. You will love it.
