Healthy Diet News #014 -- Vegetable Gardening December 16, 2008 |
Growing Your Own Fruits And Vegetables Hi, It's been awhile since our last newsletter and lots has been going on around the LeStourgeon household in the past several months. One of the biggest changes is that we've been doing some gardening and have started growing our own food on a regular basis. In today's troubled economic times we don't really have any idea what's going to be happening to our food supply and our economy so it's important to have an alternative source of food rather than the local grocery store. One of the most life changing things you can do for yourself is to plant a garden. It not only will help you and your family, it is good for the economy and if practiced on a larger scale by many people, will save lots of natural resources. If you live in Florida as we do, it doesn't make any sense to buy lettuce shipped across the country from California when you can get it from your own garden. Even if you can't plant a garden, you can shop at your local flea market where you can probably find local produce that only has to be shipped a few miles rather than thousands. But back to gardening. Since we've been gardening for several months now we'll be starting a new section at ezHealthyDiet.com on gardening, gardening tips and all things to do with growing your own fruits and vegetables and keep you updated on how the process is working out. We recently put up a page on Vegetable Gardening at our site that will be the central place to visit to get all the information on growing your own garden and being able to provide fresh, nutritious food right from your yard. Right now the page has some information on the biointensive gardening process of enriching your soil and a couple of pictures of our garden taken a few months back. In the coming year we plan to expand this section, because we are moving towards trying to provide for 50 to 60% of our own food. One of the benefits of growing your own food is knowing exactly where it came from and what you put on it to make it grow. We are going as organic as possible with our garden and that's part of the process of biointensive gardening that I explain a little on our new gardening page. We'll go into much more detail in the upcoming months so stick around. As always we want to thank you for subscribing to Healthy Diet News. Until next time... Eat Healthy, Be Healthy, Alan LeStourgeon PS - We now offer a free sample download of The Mostly Raw Vegan Meal Planner on our web site. The free sample download contains the Table Of Contents, the Introduction and the Table Of Recipes so you can see exactly what you are getting in the meal planner.
