Proper Kitchen Equipment Makes The Difference

This month's Healthy Diet News will explore what a difference having the proper kitchen equipment available means for meal preparation. First however, we want to thank all of you who listen to the Healthy Diet Podcast and those who entered our contest for 5 free copies of Prevent And Reverse Heart Disease by Dr Caldwell B. Esselstyn. We also want to congratulate the winners as well. They are Victoria from Maine, Bridget from Illinois, Kathy from Louisiana, Meagan from Texas and Sharon from Florida. We hope you enjoy the book and encourage you to spread the good news of good nutrition with your family and friends.

Want to make your food preparation easier? Want to have the right foods when you need them? Want to make your meals quicker? One of the secrets to being efficient in the kitchen is having the right tools and equipment.

Jean and I recently purchased a couple of pieces of kitchen equipment that are already making our meal preparation much easier. About a month ago we decided it was time to get a Vita Mix blender. We had been talking about it for more than a year and purchased one from the Vita Mix Store on eBay and we couldn't be happier with it. If you enjoy smoothies as much as we do, you already know that a good blender is essential. One of our blenders after only a couple of uses had the blade snap on it. That's a scary thought when that happens while making a smoothie. We didn't really notice it until we started to clean the blender, but fortunately neither of us had started to drink our smoothies yet. Now, after 3 broken and inferior blenders, one of which wouldn't chop ice but only polish it, the Vita Mix is a smoothie makers dream come true.

Jean likes to make green smoothies by adding a little bit of parsley to give it a little boost of added nutrition. I wasn't too crazy about them because our blender never seemed to chop the green part of the smoothie fine enough. It felt like I was drinking a smoothie with grass in it. All that has changed with the Vita Mix because it chops the parsley so fine it liquefies it and you don't even know it's there.

The Vita Mix comes with a 2+ HP motor that can literally cut through just about anything. In fact when you make a smoothie you don't even have to cut up your fruits. Just throw them in the blender whole, put in a little ice and liquid and you have perfect smoothies all the time. You can even use it to grind grains, make bread, make soups and salsa and a whole lot more. Listen to our podcast episode covering the Vita Mix blender for more information and a great green salsa recipe.

The second piece of kitchen equipment we acquired was an Excalibur dehydrator. The dehydrator will help us make flax seed crackers and nutritious vegan jerkys for starters. One of the only processed foods we eat way too much of is corn chips. We usually buy the organic all natural chips, but they don't really fit our philosophy of eating the most nutrient dense foods possible. I haven't been able to curb my appetite for something crunchy yet. The dehydrator will add a much needed component to our diet. Jean and I like to snack a lot and with a dehydrator you can make all sorts of things to go into trail mix or just to eat plain in place of chips. Stay tuned for recipes and to see how the Excalibur works out. I'm sure we'll be doing a podcast or two about our adventures.

As always we want to thank you for subscribing to Healthy Diet News. Until next time...
