Preventing Heart Disease

"Coronary heart disease not exist, and if it does, it need not progress." There are the words, or more the message, of Dr Caldwell B. Esselstyn in his new book, Prevent And Reverse Heart Disease. Dr Esselstyn's goal is to completely eliminate this ravage on our society.

To some, that might seem like a near impossibility because after all, isn't heart disease just a natural part of life? Well, no actually it isn't. Coronary heart disease or CHD, is quite rare in the rest of the world outside western society. In fact, two thirds of world doesn't suffer from this disease at all, so we are in the minority.

It is only when societies adopt our diet of high fat meats, dairy products and reduced fiber in their diet that they begin to experience the ravages of CHD and other typical diseases of affluence.

We spend more than $250 billion a year treating CHD, yet none of the staggering cost is actually spent on treating the underlying cause of the disease. It is all spent on drugs, equipment and highly technical, very costly procedures. Dr Esselstyn wants to do something about that and he has already started to do so.

The solution he proposes is simple, but it may be quite foreign to many people. Esselstyn suggests you should stop eating meat, poultry, fish, dairy and all oils, every single drop. That leaves us with an incredible variety of the most nutrient dense foods in existence such as all fresh veggies except avocados, all beans, peas and lentils, all fruits and all grains.

Now, before you start thinking how radical a diet like that is, remember, two thirds of the world eats like that already. But there's even a better example. What do you think is more radical, having your chest cut open, your blood pumped through a machine for awhile, and having pieces of your arteries cut out of your legs and then sewn back into your chest to re route your blood passed damaged arteries...or...eating a plant based diet that can save your life?

One factor in preventing heart disease that Dr Esselstyn stresses is to get your cholesterol below 150. But wait, I though that the optimum and safe level was 200. Well, that's what we've been lead to believe, but it's not true. A famous study known as the Framingham Heart Study that analyzed data over a 50 year period, showed that every person in Framingham, Mass that kept their cholesterol below 150 avoided having a heart attack, not one single heart attack in 50 years. Dr Esselstyn has seen these exact same results when conducting his own research.

Prevent And Reverse Heart Disease is a ground breaking book and it could have incredible influence and repercussions in the treatment of heart disease in our nation. How much would Medicare be helped if we could save that $250 billion spent on CHD every year?

This is such an important book we've been given 5 copies by the publisher to give away for free. Details of the giveaway will be forthcoming.
