Healthy Diet News, Issue #005 -- Developing A Health Philosophy March 20, 2007 |
Developing A Personal Health Philosophy We've heard so much lately about saving the planet, saving the rain forest and saving multitudes of other creatures, but what about eating right and making a commitment to save our bodies from disease? The best way to make a firm commitment to a healthy lifestyle is to develop a personal health philosophy. We need to be good stewards of the bodies we have, but unfortunately to the medical community that seems to mean what kind of medicines will we take to stay healthy instead of what will you eat to stay healthy. And to the fast food companies, well, that doesn't mean anything at all. Hippocrates said a few thousand years ago, "Let food be they medicine" yet after nearly 2,500 years, a lot of people still haven't figured that out. That's where our personal responsibility comes in and begins with us making a decision. The decision is how are you going to live your life in light of the food you eat? Will you let your food be your medicine? We here at ezHealthDiet.com want to encourage you to start to develop your own Personal Health Philosophy and make a commitment to stick to it. Of course, your health philosophy will be specifically tailored to you. No one can tell you what to eat, when to eat or how much to eat. You have to decide that for yourself. You can start with a few questions like, what does being a good steward of my body actually mean? What should I feed my body to keep it healthy and prevent disease? What will I do to honor the gift of life I have been given? Jean and I have made the choice that we will eat the foods that promote good health. For us, this means that we eat a mostly raw food, vegan diet. Someone offered us a soda the other day and we both politely said, "No thanks" because it isn't in our personal health philosophy. Does this mean that you will never slip up and eat something that you shouldn't? No, but it does mean you are grounded and know what you will put in your body so the next time someone offers you a Krispy Kreme donut and a large cup of coffee you can say, "No thanks." If you would like more infomation on developing a personal health philosophy, we covered the topic in more detail on our last Healthy Diet Podcast and Jean has also written a more in depth article posted on our healthy diet web site here. We also wanted to let you know that we now offer a free sample download of The Mostly Raw Vegan Meal Planner on our web site. The free sample download contains the Table Of Contents, the Introduction and the Table Of Recipes so you can see exactly what you are getting in the meal planner. The meal planner is a great tool to help you take the hassle out of planning your healthy meals. As always we want to thank you for subscribing to Healthy Diet News. Until next time...
