Healthy Diet News, Issue #001 -- Your First Issue December 21, 2006 |
First Issue of Healthy Diet News If you can believe it, you are actually reading your very first issue of the Healthy Diet News and we want to thank you for subscribing! Jean and I are passionate about staying healthy, eating nutritious life giving food, and sharing the good news of proper nutrition with others and we hope you are too. We believe that your diet can do more for you than your doctor can. Hippocrates said hundreds and hundreds of years ago that our food would be our medicine yet, it's a sad fact that most doctors today have little to no formal training in proper nutrition. However with interested individuals such as yourself getting educated and learning about the connection between diet and health, and then sharing that information with others, the tide of healthy eating is turning. The diet we choose to eat is an 70 to 80% raw vegan diet consisting of green leafy salads, delicious fruits, smoothies, fresh vegetable juices (primarily carrot), various vegetable wraps, and lots more from the healthy recipe section of our web site. Since we're already on the subject, let's talk about that section of our web site. It is divided into 7 different headings including Breakfast Recipes, Desserts, Soups, Salads, General Recipes and more. Everything you find in our recipes is vegan, which means it contains no animal products and 80 to 90% of our recipes are raw. There simply isn't a good reason why we can't eat healthier diets, cut medical costs, reduce insurance costs and be a much healthier society. Well, except for corporate special interests, junk food addictions, food propaganda, governmental conflict of interest and more. You know, just the normal stuff. Let's talk about some of that below. Food Industry Propaganda On our Healthy Diet Podcast last week we talked about propaganda put out by the food industry and fast food restaurants. Clever slogans such as Pizza Hut's, "Gather round the good stuff" and Wendy's, "Do what tastes right" are the norm to attract consumers to unhealthy junk foods. The outcome is to promote the business side of the food industry, not nutrition, as the purveyors of this nonsense would have you think. However, the biggest propaganda comes from the government with its nutrition guidelines in the promotion of the Food Pyramid. Thomas Edison once said, "The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human body, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease." And as I mentioned earlier, hundreds of years before him Hippocrates said "Let food be thy medicine." Unfortunately neither the medical profession, the food industry nor the government has any indication of heading in that direction soon. The Food Pyramid is more like part of the problem than the solution. We have a great article on our web site written by Dr T. Colin Campbell, author of The China Study, that takes on the conventional wisdom of the nutritional guidelines called out in the Food Pyramid entitled, "A Health Disaster In The Making." It is an alarming read to find out that the very institutions meant to protect you aren't doing so. The good news though is that you can change the way you look, the way you feel and your overall health status by eating a well balanced diet of nutritionally dense food. And the only place you are going to get that food isn't in a can, it comes directly from nature! For numerous recipes filled with nutrient dense, life giving food check out our recipe section. Well, that about wraps it up for the first issue of Healthy Diet News. Be on the look out for our Mostly Raw Vegan, All Natural Meal Planner ebook. It is in the development stages right now and will feature a 2 week meal planning guide complete with recipes, nutrition tips and a shopping list for all the ingredients featured in our recipes. Launch date is scheduled for some time in January. Jean and I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
